I love helping people achieve greatness...to help them see and achieve the potential they have...to believe in themselves...to accomplish things they didn't think they could do. So, how does that relate to business consulting? Business in America is the ultimate proving ground for achieving more than you thought possible. It will push, poke, provoke, and intimidate you into submission...IF you let it. Owning your very own business is also as much a part of the American dream and landscape as apple pie and buffalo. We nearly lost one of those and I refuse to give up on small business as an integral part of this country. America was built on small businesses...entrepreneurs providing unmet needs in the market... seeking a better life...living the American dream of OPPORTUNITY! Consequently, my passion is to help entrepreneurs start, grow and succeed in business...to help people believe in themselves and achieve their dream of business ownership. So, how did I get to this place? One cold and blustery day as I was "on the fence", considering starting my own business an old, classic ELO song came on the radio, "Hold on tight". (I know I'm dating myself with that one!) The old familiar tune was there, but the lyrics where louder than ever. It said "go for it", "live your dream", "follow your passion", "Try!". Here's a few of those lyrics (not in their original order):
I grew up working in small family businesses (we had 3 while I was growing up). I understand how much the business impacts the entire family...how much the family livelihood and future depends on business success...how driven small business owners are to succeed. Small business is in my blood. After a stint in the US military and earning a degree in engineering, I worked for a large high-tech company (which took me out of MT for a while). Although the work was interesting, it didn't take long before I felt like a square peg being forced through a round hole. My heart wasn't in it and no matter what I tried it wasn't going to get into it. I found the beginnings of my true passion after that while working as a consultant for both large and small companies in a wide variety of industries. Although successful working with both large and small companies, it was the "little" guys I enjoyed most. I was excited to work with my small business clients every day. They energized me! I understood their plight and what they were "laying on the line". Moving back to Montana, I had the wonderful privilege of helping over 30 entrepreneurs (scattered across the country) start their own business! This sealed the deal in my heart...this is where I'm supposed to be: helping people achieve their dreams through business ownership. The relationships formed have been amazing and inspiring. I'm motivated and blessed each and every day by those who have allowed me to be a part of their dream. We are somehow "connected" forever...riding the "waves" of business ownership. On a final note, I fundamentally believe that operating your own business should be fun! If it's not, we may as well work for someone else.
